Few tools in our workshop offer quite the same combination of speed, flexibility and creative freedom as the 3D printer.
Whether we are working with PLA, ABS or alternative filament materials, 3D printing allows us to move from an idea on screen to a physical object surprisingly quickly.
And while rapid prototyping is one of its most obvious applications, that is only part of what the technology can do.
More than just prototyping
3D printing can help us test an idea before committing to a larger production run, allowing us to quickly identify problems, refine designs and see how something works in the real world.
But the finished print can also be the final product.
We have used 3D printing for detailed sculptures and aesthetic display pieces, functional tools and engineering solutions, scale models and a whole range of one off creative objects.
The flexibility of the technology means that every project can be approached differently, depending on the required size, level of detail, material and intended use.
Making ideas tangible
For us, the real value of 3D printing is not simply that it can produce something quickly.
It is that it removes some of the barriers between an idea and the finished object.
Instead of waiting for traditional manufacturing processes or investing heavily in tooling for a one off piece, we can experiment, adapt and produce solutions directly in the workshop.
The examples shown here are just a snapshot of what is possible, different objects, different purposes and different materials, all created using the same principle of turning digital ideas into physical reality.
Whatever the brief, if it can be imagined, there is a good chance we can print it.
