Cineworld x Tron: Light Up the Night

Cineworld x Tron: Light Up the Night

When Cineworld needed a promotional film to coincide with the release of the new Tron movie, there was not much room for compromise.

The pieces needed to look unmistakably Tron, sleek, futuristic and luminous, while being wearable, camera ready and delivered within a tight production window.

Our answer was two custom built, light up Tron jackets.

Building the look

Rather than starting with completely new garments, we used a pair of existing jackets as the foundation.

LED strips were carefully installed throughout each jacket, with the wiring routed to keep the finish clean and avoid distracting from the overall design. The result needed to look as though the illumination was part of the garment itself, rather than something simply attached to it.

Power was supplied by a self contained battery pack, discreetly housed inside each jacket.

That meant the finished pieces were completely wearable and could be used naturally during filming, without trailing cables or external power sources getting in the way.

A low waste approach to a high impact look

The project also gave us the opportunity to demonstrate that a big visual impact does not necessarily require a big build.

By working with existing garments and incorporating low energy LED technology, we kept the production lean while avoiding unnecessary new materials.

The finished jackets brought the distinctive Tron aesthetic to life and delivered exactly what the promotional film needed, a strong visual hook that looked every bit as futuristic as the source material.

Two jackets, a tight turnaround and a concept that quite literally glowed on screen.
